Goal: To examine the local, indigenous, and global interactions and interedepence of individuals, societies, cultures, and nations

Outcome IN1.2: Examine cultural diversity in the family and school, including eploration of how people are similar and how they are different.

Indicators:

  • a) Explore the common attributes of families
  • b) Recognize and celebrate that family configurations are varied and diverse, with cultural, religious, economic factors influencing the perception of family
  • c) Give example of differences in ways of life for various families (e.g., language, clothing, food, art, celebrations) and compare the findings
  • d) Explore how location affects the ways of life of diverse families in meeting needs and wants
  • e) Describe the diversity of people within the classroom and school in order to identify ways in which people are similar and ways in which people are different from each other, validating the diversity and value of all
  • f) Explore the kinds of contributions made in the community by people of diverse cultures
  • g) Inventory important contributions of all members of a community, and envision an inclusive community
  • h) Present information and ideas about the significance of family and community using oral, visual or print media
  • i) Represent diverse family structures within the clasroom
